Recapture the glory days of Dublin’s last great Theatre Royal which opened ninety years ago this September. With photographs and rare archive newsreel footage, autographs, programmes some of which has not been available before. Enjoy stories about the “Royal” and many international stars like Judy Garland, Bill Haley and the Comets, Danny Kaye, Bob Hope, Roy Rogers and Trigger, Danny Kaye and Jimmy Durante too name just a few. Then there are the Irish stars such as Noel Purcell, Jimmy O’Dea, Maureen Potter, Jack Cruise, Cecil Sheridan, Frankie Blowers, the Royalettes, and Peggy Dell.

Conor Doyle’s connection to the Royal is very strong as his Godfather Jimmy O’Dea was the last person to speak off the stage of the “Royal” and his Aunt and Uncle Ursula and Noel Doyle appeared there many times. He also led the successful campaign to have the new street across the Hawkins St site to be called “Theatre Royal Way”.
