Monthly fresh food market in Swords Castle
Step into the historic grounds of Swords Castle and discover a vibrant new food market taking place on the third Saturday of each month from April to September, from 10am to 3pm.
This lively market blends artisan food, fresh produce, handmade crafts, and family-friendly entertainment – all in a setting steeped in heritage. With picnic spots, hot food, sweet treats, and talks, it’s the perfect Saturday outing. Each month, food and drink-themed talks take place in the Chapel on the grounds of the castle, organised by Fingal Libraries. Entry is free. Don’t miss the opportunity to support local producers and enjoy the best of Fingal’s food culture in the heart of Swords. This event is kindly organised by Fingal County Council supported by Fingal Farmers Group and Fingal Food Circle.

Herbs, Hexes, and Halloween - Samhain Traditions & Irish Herbal Lore
12.00 in The Chapel
Join Denise Dunne from The Herb School for a fun and informative talk and demo on some of our native Irish herbs that have been traditionally associated with Samhain.
This seasonal talk and workshop will explore the fascinating connection between witches and wise women healers in Irish history. Discover how traditional bean feasa (wise women) used their deep knowledge of herbs for healing, protection, and ritual at this liminal time of year.
During the session, we’ll look at plants long associated with Halloween and Samhain, such as elder, mugwort, and yarrow, with live examples and stories of their uses in folklore and medicine.
Denise will demonstrate how to weave a Parshall Cross from rowan twigs that was traditionally used at Samhain to protect the household from bad luck, illness and evil spirits, and she will also show you how to create a mugwort smudge stick.
Join us for an afternoon of folklore, herbal wisdom, and a touch of enchantment - perfect for anyone who is curious about the roots of our Halloween herbal traditions.
